Jan. 9th, 2003 11:51 pmRight. I've proved without a doubt that cycling between Windsor and Slough or Maidenhead is a big no-no. The trains were utterly screwed along the Reading-Padington line tonight, so when I eventually got the Slough and got bored waiting for half an hour for the next train, I decided to cycle to Windsor. What I didn't take into account was that part of the route was under water.
It didn't look too bad at first. I edged slowly forwards over the ice that had covered the road until I started getting some grip - then I tried cycling forwards. I'm not entirely sure what happened next, as the bike hit something and I ground to a halt. Had to put my feet down or fall off the bike and I ended up putting my feet well up to my ankles in icy cold river water. I figured at this point that the road was probably covered in debris that would make traversing it impossible and quickly retreated to dry land.
Thankfully I managed to work out how to get around the new found lake, so I guess the route isn't entirely impossible, but I'm not going to let work know this :)
Depending on how dry my trainers are tomorrow, I might work from home.
